·        Prohibited items – items whose import into the country is prohibited.    

·        Items admitted conditionally – items whose importation into the country is allowed with the term if a document issued by the relevant authorities of the exporting country is presented.    

·        Items admitted without conditions – items whose import into the country is allowed.

Part II:
Conditions of admission of articles imported or in transit

Animal products (with the exception of canned food) may be sent if a veterinary service certificate is enclosed. Raw animal products are prohibited.
Products of flora are allowed to be sent in when enclosing phytosanitary certificate.
Private indidua ls: may receive pharmaceutical products intended only for personal use by a clearly identifiable sender who, according to the legislation of the dispatching country, has rights to distribute pharmaceutical products. Maximum allowed amount of medicines in one mail item is equivalent to 12 months usage. Private individuals confirm necessity to use prescribed medicines by presenting prescription  approved  by  a  pharmacy  that  has  provided  pharmaceutical  products,  or  by  other document issued by attending person.
Businesses: Pharmaceutical products may be sent to a manufacturer of pharmaceutical products, a medical wholesaler or an accredited representative of the foreign producer of medicines in Latvia. Items addressed to such businesses must be accompanied by a quality certificate issued by the producer of the medicine and documents containing the following information:
–   release date of medicine;
–   name, presentation and certificate of guarantee of the medicine;
–   serial number and quantity of each medicine;
–   information on the medicine supplier (sender) (name and address);
–   information on the medicine manufacturer;
–   country of origin of the medicine;
–   intended recipient of the medicine (name and address);
–   selling price of the medicine to be paid by recipient;
–   registration number of the medicine (from the European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal

Part III:
Special provisions, Customs and other
NB                                    In accordance with the national legislation, Latvia Post does not accept ordinary, registered or insured mail and parcels containing coins, bank notes, securities payable to bearer, cheques and travellers’ cheques. Latvia Post will bear no liability in cases of loss or damage to such items.


Letter mail containing goods, as well as parcel and EMS , must be accompanied by customs declaration (CN22 or CN23 form).
