The designated operator of GREECE, Hellenic Post (ELTA), wishes to inform the designated operators of other UPU member countries that a new robotic system has been installed at its largest sorting centre, in Attica. This automated system uses artificial intelligence technology to fully digitalize the sorting of mail, ensuring high-speed, accurate and safe handling of postal items. In order to optimize the operational performance and efficiency of this automated system, Hellenic Post requests that the designated operators of other UPU member countries:

a)       Ensure that their customers provide the correct Greek postcode when posting items to Greece. N.B. – Greek postcodes, as well as other necessary address data (prefecture, city/village, region, address), can be checked at: findapostcode.aspx.

b)       Ensure that the postcode information is included in the relevant EDI messages (EMSEVT V3 – EMA and EMC events, ITMATT V1) for all international postal items destined for Greece (i.e. letters, parcels and EMS items). The inclusion of the correct postcode in the transmission of EDI messages will enable Hellenic Post’s robotic sorting system to function more effectively, thus improving the process of sorting and delivering postal items for the benefit of customers (both senders and recipients).
