Conditions of admission of articles imported or in transit

Fresh meat, pork, sausages, dried sausages, untreated skins, wools, horns, hooves, bones and other parts, scraps or waste of cattle or sheep, as well as unprocessed horsehair from foreign ports, if these articles are accompanied by a certificate of origin issued by the competent authorities and stating that the place of origin of these items is not contaminated with threadworm.
These must be accompanied by a certificate issued by the municipality or other competent authority at the place of origin, listing the species and their weight and stating that these products originate from a country where there is no phylloxera. This certificate must be countersigned by the Greek Consulate of the country in which the goods were bought or by the Greek Consulate in the port of exportation.
2.5 Tobacco Leaf tobacco for cigar manufacture. Under Customs law, this product may not be imported except by businesses in the tobacco industry, subject to a special permit issuedby the Ministry of Finance and provided that the necessary formalities are complied with.
2.7 Narcotics Consignments of opium, morphine, cocaine and other narcotics sent for medical or scientific purposes as postal parcels, provided that these items are accompanied by aspecial permit from the Greek Finance Ministry.

Certain pharmaceutical specialities, under special permit.
The following articles on which the Greek State has a monopoly: salt, playing cards, matches, fireworks, petroleum, saccharine, cigarette paper as well as thin paper which could be used for making cigarettes. The importation of cigarette paper is permitted only to tobacco manufacturers, under permit from the Greek Finance Ministry.
Television receivers are subject to a special permit issued by the appropriate Ministries.
2.15 War material The import by post of sporting guns intended for trade is permitted provided that the importer of such guns requests and authorization issued either by the Minister ofPublic Security or by the gendarmerie or police duly authorized by the Minister of Public Security.
Part III:
Special provisions, Customs and other

Customs declarations must be written in Greek or French and give a detailed description of the contents.
It is absolutely necessary for senders to insert a copy of the commercial invoices in parcels. Failure to do so will cause delay in delivery of the parcel, make customs clearance difficult and might evenbe detrimental to the lawful owners.
Certificates of origin or import permits, if required, must be attached to the dispatch notes.
The certificates of origin must be supplied by the sender, the import permits by either the sender or the addressee.
Items originating in the European Union are not checked by Customs, while those from other countries are exempt from duty when their value does not exceed 35 EUR.
Customs clearance is carried out on the basis of the contents, in conjunction with the customs declaration. False declaration of the contents does not result in seizure of the items, but in certain cases, customs authorities reserve the right to confiscate such items.
The following articles are also prohibited to be inserted in the postal destined to Greece:
- Coins and banknotes.
- Valuable items in ordinary and registered items.
- Passports which have been issued by Greek Authorities.
- Lotteries
- Items which infringe copyright rights, such as imitations of signed clothes, valuable watches, bags or other leather articles, music or video CD’s as well as any article which is result of plagiarism.
The following articles are conditionally admitted (the addressee should obtain an import permission from the competent Authorities).
- CITES articles (Concerns articles of the wild fauna an flora, such as live animals, hunting trophies, skin of animals or leather from snakes, crocodiles, etc., furs from wild animals, bons,nails and horns as well as plants such as palms, poppies, manoglia, lilly, etc).
- Rough diamonds.
- Weapons, hunting guns, mechanisms for explosives, etc.
- Medicines, nutrition’s supplements and cosmetics.
- Security devices, parts, gears or components of them.
- Electrical equipment, such as units for house usage, portable tools, illumination devices, cables, wire, etc.
- Electric sockets, jacks, plags, etc.
- Telecommunication’s and Radio equipment.
- In vitro diagnostic medical technology equipment.
- Gas units or devices and their security and regulation components.
- Plastic pipes or parts of them.
- Toys, non bearing the indication CE (Certified).
